REDD+ Strategy of the Tocantins Jurisdictional Program

The Program’s REDD+ strategy is
implemented through three main instruments:

Plan for the Prevention and Combat of Deforestation and Forest Fires in the State of Tocantins

It is the main instrument for tackling illegal deforestation and forest fires in Tocantins through prevention, inspection, monitoring and financing efforts, articulating different public policies and institutions.

The PPCDIF, which covers the period 2021-2025, is aligned with the federal plans (PPCDAm and PPCerrado). The Plan has four strategic axes, each with its respective actions and planned goals:

Tocantins Low Carbon Agriculture Plan+ (ABC+TO Plan)

This is the sectoral plan for adapting Tocantins’ agriculture to climate change and reducing GHG emissions from the sector. Tocantins has committed to reducing between 8.5 and 10.5 million tCO2e by 2030 with the ABC+/TO Plan.

The ABC+/TO Plan seeks to promote the recovery of degraded pastures, the restoration of Permanent Preservation Areas (APPs) and Legal Reserve areas (RL), and implement environmentally sustainable agricultural practices, such as crop-livestock-forest integration (ILPF).
